Pandemonium and the never ending mistake

Postby Mr.Punch » Thu Sep 24, 2015 3:10 pm

It was mentioned in the past several times and I was one of the few or even the only one coming accross a major mistake with Pandemonium...now while reading Jaz`Book he himself :o mentioned THIS mistake talking about Hermes showing on the cover of Panda  ...

It is NOT Hermes!

It is MEDUSA!

I think you are right. It's actually the Medusa Rondanini, maybe the error stems from a source like this, which also mentions Hermes: http://info.tuwien.ac.at/ecaade/proc/winitzky/figure.htm

My guess is someone mistook the mask for Hermes because of the wings on the head.

Well spotted Punch!

Spot on. Yeah Psyche, it seems that even Sir Coles was missleaded (as it looks like he got his inspiration from a site/book) like the one your link is showing...can`t wait to point it out to The Black Jester...on a hopefull German Tour by next year...(and if I have the chance to meet the man)

PS.: No,I don`t know nothing about a German Tour yet, I am just guessing and hoping!

Awesome, I was wondering about the Pandemonium cover for years. Thanks guys.
To be honest, I like the fact that there's an error about Hermes in the record. It suits the nature and fame of the god perfectly, thief extraordinaire and such.

He is considered as the patron deity of thieves among other things.
I think he stole Apollo's herd of cows or oxes as an infant?
