I think we might need a new thread here.\
\
"Crapping on famous guitarists equipment and staying alive longer than 1/10th of a second"

Hello Gatherers !\
How to get the classic Geordie sound ?\
I think that first of all the P-90 pick-ups are really suitable... Add a bit of chorus, a bit of delay (the Electro Harmonix Memory Man Deluxe (stereo) seems to be "the right one"...) A hollow-body guitar is also suitable to get these long feedbacks that are also part of his sound...\
The "bending" effect we can hear in the Intravenous and LLB intros come from these BEL ADT units (which were made initially for bassists), i saw he was still using them during the last tour...

Excellent Anthony - thanks. Won't be going to any lengths re new equipment though - not yet anyway.\
\
I'll see what Cubase and it's selection of distortion/delay/chorus comes up with and I'll post the results as soon as I have the track finished.

Just to loosen this thread a bit....\
What is the "Classic" Geordie Sound? I mean, whenever this question turns up, everybody automatically tunes in the Burman Phase eg: Nighttime,BTATS maybe Firedances...but what about KJ 1 WTF? and Revelations? No, he did`nt use the ES 295 on Revelations. look at the Vids of Empire Song or --was it Chop Chop (where they replaced Jaz with a dummy) He`s playing his SG Junior and as well on one Gig that excists on Vid from Amsterdam I think ...and he won`t have done so if owning the ES already - for sure!...so what is the classic sound? The 1st three Albums are mostly considered the classic ones... \:idea:\ \
\
Well definately it`s the P90 PUs as his - I guess-first Les Paul use to have them as well as the SG Junior. Tho he sounds totally different on KJ 1 and WTF...! than on Rev. not talking about Firedances....\
\
Anyway my private trial with Geord began, even before I acknowledged him. \:)\

Yeah you're right - but to be honest at this stage I'd be happy enough with a great sound that doesn't sound too generic. The Revelations sound (intro to The Hum and Empire Song)is a bit closer to the eventual ES sound than the previous two albums and I'd be happy with that.\
\
In fact come to think of it, since Extremities, Geordie is sounding less and less like Geordie with every passing album maybe?

Dunno about his pedals but I guess he still uses the Electro Harmonix cos it`s a killer pedal.
\
\
He's used a Line6 DL4 Modeling Delay Pedal the last few tours. I presume this is because it allows him to set a few different delay speeds and then access them by stepping on the pedal instead of manually tweaking the knobs on the EH MM Deluxe. I seem to recall that there was a Rocktron Hush pedal in the loop as well to cut down on the P90 hum.\

Hi all, this is my theory.... \
First i'm using a 65watt fender amp with 10" speakers for sharpness of tone.\
i use Electro-Harmonix 'memory-Boy' pedal for chorus & slapback (about 95ms delay).Image \
\
Image\
And the Big-Daddy is a Peerless 'Gigmaster sc' guitar. "REAL P-90 Pick ups"\
i've played a couple of es-295's and this is as close as i'm gonna get, better tone and sound than the 'epiphone 295' in tone and playability.\
And only £500, bargin \:)\ \
they are gonna bring out a model with the trapeze bridge on it soon too....\
Using this lot is the nearest i've got in 20years to getting that 'Geordie' sound.\
\
i know some of the gear He's using; \
Amplifiers\
* 2x Burman Pro 502 100 watt Head (1980s only)\
* 2x Framus Dragon Head (2009)\
Cabinets\
* 2x Burman Custom 8x10 Speaker Cabinets (1980s only)\
* 4x Marshall 4x10 Speaker Cabinets\
Pedals\
* Electro-Harmonix Memory Man Deluxe Delay\
* Line 6 Dl4 Delay Modeller (2009)\
* ISP Decimator (2009)\
Rack\
* 2x Bel Digital Audio ADT Digital Delay\
set up for a full 'stereo' rig\
Hope this helps \:)\
