Symphonic KJ in the oven

Postby Mr.Punch » Wed Feb 10, 2016 5:40 pm

It`s on the Gatering Mailing List : http://www.joelgausten.com/2016/02/livi ... youth.html

There are "concrete" Plans to release a Symphonic KJ Album ( arr. by Jaz ?!! ).

I know, it was on their /his Agenda for long...why do I know this ? Well,in 2001 me and my then fellow Keyboarder had the idea to create a symphonic KJ Tribute Album. Which we did!
In 2002 we`d finished it. Contacts were made to several Rec. Comps. ( As KJ s Cathalouge is wildly spread...in the end Aunty E.M.I. said NO! to a realease ,majority of the songs we`d re-arranged where under their flag then ). So it went onto the shelf . Sadly ! As I am still fucking proud of our work.
...long story cut short: By time I`d never expected any reaction (tried several times to get a copy to Jaz,Geordie..) out of a sudden a letter arrived by 2004 coming from a chzec legend..and inholds a personal letter by Mr. Coleman writting about our work, that he partly realy loves it etc etc ,but we have to learn a lot more about classical arrangements..I was flabber gasted as you can imagine
...and I always respect any peoples privacy...so I said to myself : That was the accolate! It will never see the light of the day. And it`s good that way.
(Though, some very close gatherers got a copy, sworen to absolute silence! ).
But now, when KJ are going to release a symphonic one... I am curious which songs will be chosen and what do you lot think about it at all?

I think (appart from invocation,or Dark Forces...there are loads of symphonic arr. to be detectect...just take New Jerusalem....

B.T.W. if...IF! it realy comes to a release of a official symphonic release ( remember the Dokumentary...) then I`ll upload ours too...just as a comperison of results... 8-)

I am realy very curious - I am !

...I am very curious, too! Much more than I would be about another remix-Youth-thing! Punch, and you can be proud of your own work.... ;)

Hi fellows,

I am incredibly curious, too, and, perhaps unfortunately, I have very high expectations from such a piece of work.
And Mr.Punch, indeed be proud of the work! ;)

I think it'll probably be along the lines of the Jaz arranged, Youth produced Symphonic Pink Floyd album 'Us & Them'.
They also did a Stones one, both performed by the London Philharmonic Orchestra.

this is my favorite of the symphonic by Jaz. I also like the remix of Time the best at the end...it goes great on a burn with the requiem dub...floating leaf....

Did Roger Dean, artist for yes, do the artwork? I think that would be cool too... Jaz doing Symphonic Yes. But maybe that's too sappy for some people.

I saw YES during the Roundabout Tour and that was one of the best rocking stadium shows I've seen. The I saw them at a casino a year back. Good show, but boy, in their prime they rocked...

Am I blind or is there no tracklist on Pledge? Is this thing still in the works?

You're right, there is no tracklist. Maybe they want to wait for the recording-session in Russia and decide afterwards, wich tracks will make it on the album.

That`s my guess too.

Interesting sounds the symphonic gig in London later in the year...

There is (the promised?) interview with Jaz on PledgeMusic (the full video is accessible only to pledgers).
I'm a little bit disappointed, I expected something a little bit longer since it was advertised... but there's still some interesting information!

Maybe you are aware that the work is called "The Great Invocation" and it was adopted from the title of a poem that has something to do with the United Nations. (I've tried to google it but I don't exactly understand the connection. Perhaps someone of you will expand on this.)

The work is supposed to start with Invocation and also contain Adorations (YES, my most favourite!), Euphoria (aaawesome!), Absolute Dissent and "a sublime version" of The Raven King. Jaz names only pieces he "has already done". He also mentions that riffs normally "don't translate well into symphonic orchestra" and that he will be doing "the more unusual tracks of KJ".
