Postponed ?

News about the band.

I'm sorry I'm just not buying this! It's not like the band are eighteen year old wannabes who have to do everything the record company orders them to.
I can live with the album being postponed, but when you only play two dates in your home country it's bleeding obvious that people are going to have to travel and find hotels. I've lost over £100 on this and I'm sure there are others that have lost alot more.
I've followed this band for nearly 30 years and, to be honest, I've had enough.

Well, what can you do about it? The Hosannas tour was also a shambles from the beginning. Postponed this, postponed that.
A friend of mine was reluctant about buying a ticket for Amsterdam next month. He fears they won't be able to cause a stir of euphoria like they did with the reunion shows from 2008. He may have a point.
Better put on one of the "Live at the Forum" CDs again. Those London shows bring up good memories of the shows in Brussels

The Hosannas tour was a fucking disgrace with that Matt Lucas alike on bass. Awful gigs, me and Keef did get absolutely shitfaced for the Koko gig though.......................... :o

On a related note, can anyone tell me the approx. capacities of the typical venues on this would-be tour?

Re: size of venues: In Chicago, The Empty Bottle was a tiny local bar! I'm guessing it would hold 200. Very unusual. I didn't expect KJ to play there. The stage is about 4 ft high. Maybe 20 ft. wide? They've played bigger places in the past, like 2000 seats (Metro). I thought because of their lack of popularity, they were put into Empty Bottle. Which makes me sad. At the same time, it would be a bit more enjoyable, more intimate.

Thanks Miche.

(Oh yeah, and happy birthday! ;) )

Trying to work out why they hardly ever play Ireland ( Dublin & Belfast in 03 and Belfast in 94 - and nothing else, ever)

Small population, limited market, fair enough. But if they are playing small venues like you mention in the states they can play them over here too.

I don't really understand it. Plenty of much more obscure bands play here, in relatively larger venues, and plenty of megastars do too. It's unusual.

Edinburgh would have been my choice had I bought a ticket which luckily enough, I hadn't.

Too bad, I was considering Edinburgh as well. We'll meet maybe in Oct. then?!
Thanks for the birthday wish!

Yes, it is weird about Ireland. It doesn't make sense to me either.

It's down to promoters.

A band like Killing Joke will probably want about 2 or 3 grand a gig. Then take into account shipping the equipment across the water. Then paying the road crew. It all adds up.

Punk promoters in Belfast don't have the money to pay them, and mainstream promoters probably don't see them as a viable way to make money.

Re. venues. These are the places I've seen them live.

Liverpool O2 Academy - 1,200

Download Festival - an awful lot

Glasgow ABC - 2,500

The Hammy A holds about 5,000

OK fair enough but as I say, plenty of other more obscure bands play here. I know KJ aren't exactly a household name and that promoters may not be jumping up and down at the prospect of booking them but other bands manage to get here.

I suppose what I'm saying is that KJ seem to be one of the few bands (actually the only one that I can think of) that consistently ignore Ireland when playing multi-date, small venue European legs of tours.
